Selection, analyse,
and verification of the veneer
Covolam posses its own cutting and splicing units for the veneer, which
permits the company to be innovative all while being competitive within
the market. The plain sliced (flat cut) veneer is bought directly from
an independent supplier, analyzed and verified in the plant and all assembled
according to the specifications of the customer. The versatility of the
equipment available allows the company to maximize the usage of the resources
and provide different « cut-to-size » programs
to its customers without creating waste. |
Types of veneer matching methods
available
Whole-piece face
- Jointing is not necessary
for this type of cut, because the veneer is obtained
from single full-size flitches.
Book
matching
- Adjoining flitches from the
same log are placed side-by-side, alternating open
and tight sides, in order to produce a mirror effect (like an open book). This
technique produces rounded, highly stylized symmetrical patterns.
Pleasant
matching
-
Flitches from various logs selected for colour similarity are used to produce
a variety of grains and patterns in the same uniform shade.
Plank effect matching
- Various colours and qualities
of veneers are assembled randomly in order to imitate
the finish of wooden planks.
